Holy Week in the Age of COVID-19

Never did we imagine we would be entering Holy Week in the midst of a global pandemic!

We must persevere, as good Christians ought, despite the challenges that the Coronavirus brings to our efforts to celebrate these holiest days of the year. Each day, we will bring you something to encourage your spirit and feed your soul. Journey with us.

Palm Sunday: Jesus’ Triumphal Entry to Jerusalem

Imagine the day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem astride a donkey. He entered the grand city not on a great steed but on a lowly donkey. Throngs of people gathered to cheer him! They gave a welcome fit for a hero waving the palm fronds. Son of David, King of the Jews! What a celebration!

Jesus knew, of course, that soon he would give his life for ours. No one in the crowd could have known on that day what lay ahead.

Family DinnerImagine how we planned to celebrate this Holy Week before we were stricken by the Coronavirus Pandemic. We had ideas of attending services, hearing the word as we sat in the pews of our church homes and enjoying the fellowship of our friends, neighbors and fellow Christians. We could not have known what would happen to change our plans…to change our lives!

Now let us remember that God has a plan for us. We must demonstrate our faith today because it is so difficult for us to see that plan with our own eyes in the midst of the tragedy that unfolds each day that we live under the specter of the Coronavirus. Trust God to lead us through this terrible time. Remember, He is with us always.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you….plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”

In this time, we hope to find new types of connections. Calls, FaceTime, social media, web conference, cards through the mail and electronically are some ways that we can connect to in these times. Let us know how you are adjusting.
